White Brick Wall

I told you it was good.

Today I received an email from Cassandra Alling, the narrator of my audiobook Like A Flip Turn. The subject of the email was "woooohooooowhoooo! review" and the content inside included a short message from Cassandra along with a link. Where did that link take me, you ask? Well... it took me to the website of a magazine called AudioFile.

AudioFile is a website that listens to and reviews audiobooks. According to Cassandra, they typically only review things that come from bigger-name publishers, but because Cassandra has a subscription with them, she was able to request that they listen to and review her book... which is Like A Flip Turn.

And they did!

And AudioFile said the nicest things about Cassandra! Here's the review:

Cassandra Alling was clearly meant to narrate this poetic story bursting with magical realism in a small town in Pennsylvania. Listeners meet elderly, reclusive Ruby; betrayed 20-something Jenny; and troubled 12-year-old Lydia. Each of Alling's characters is distinct and compelling; past and present events seamlessly intermingle. Ruby, Jenny, and Lydia have tragedies to overcome. Vibrant descriptions of locale, food, and endearing friends and family add atmosphere. Alling is movingly convincing and relatable rendering Jenny's, Lydia's, and Ruby's evolving stages of life. Her portrayal of raspy-voiced Ruby, with her questionable memories, is a standout, as is her portrayal of Jenny, whose "talent" is conversing with wildlife. This audiobook exemplifies the power of audio as a feast for the ears.

My favorite line? "A feast for the ears." How great is that?! Because it is a feast for the ears! I mean, I wanted to work with Cassandra as soon as I heard her portrayal of Ruby Gallagher -- she NAILED it. But she nails the delivery of every single character in this book. And I'm soooooooo excited that she'll be bringing Ruby to life again in The One You're With. The audio for that should be out in December at some point; Cassandra is probably in the studio as I type this...
